Competition Opportunities
Medina Valley Swim Club competes in at least meet each month with additional opportunities for developmental/fun meets and championship meets.
Swimming is a lifelong sport so whether or not someone competes doesn't take away from their participation or practice. But those who do decide to compete (swimmers and parents) are asked to be brave, thoughtful, and accountable.
Requirements to compete: 1) swimmer is able to complete a safe dive
from a starting block; 2) swimmer can complete their event without
having shown in practice that they are likely to be disqualified for
technical violations (coach's call); 3) swimmer is ready to use their race day skills (participating in warmup, staying with their teammates, talking to their coach before and after each race, demonstrating an understanding of how to get to the starting block on time for their event).
About meet information: USA Swimming meets are held within the San Antonio area. Given the
fluidity of when meet information is made available, MVSC does its best to
give families as much lead time as possible to consider attending the
competitions and at least one week to register for the competitions.
Once the team sends meet entries to the host team, families are
responsible for paying MVSC the meet entry fees whether or not swimmers race their scheduled events.
Meet entry fees range from $8 per event for general meets up to $25 per event for championship entries.
Swimmers
are encouraged to advocate for the events they wish to swim but coaches--those who train and prepare swimmers for competitions--will
have the final say when it comes to confirming events that 1) swimmers
are prepared for and 2) events that swimmers need to progress.
Every swimmer goes into a competition with different goals and have been
trained towards those achievements. At the competitions it is pivotal
that swimmers get used to talking to their coach before and after their
race to see how their individual goals have matched up to their personal
results.Coaches are always there for swimmers and parents to help every step along that path.
